Training on the Road

The last few weeks have been busy! I've been on the road, as usual - Monday thru Friday each week.  One of the weeks was in Seattle, so didn't have my bike with me, plus a weekend in Vegas for a family vacay to watch curling.  I know, I know! Curling and Vegas? Who woulda thought...but I had an absolute blast with my sister, Leona, and my Mum and Dad.  And I managed to get a few runs in while in Sin City as well.

Unfortunately I also managed to get sick again.  Fever and everything this time.  <sigh>  3rd time since Christmas.  Starting to feel like a repeat of last year.  I've got a lingering cough and not much of a voice.  My sexy radio voice.  lol. Starting to think this is my normal sound!

At any rate, voice or not, I'm back at it full swing this week.  Got into the pool Monday morning, which was a first in a while :).  Definitely helped that I decided to miss half of my jewelry class on Sunday night to take the earlier flight.  I knew a midnight arrival wasn't going to help given my health.  Then, it was a busy week at work, facilitating a 3-day event for 150+ people.  It's amazing how much that takes out of you.  Wednesday I got home at 7:30, after 11 hours on my feet, and promptly went to bed.  But I managed to get every other workout in.  It feels good to be back working out regularly.

Ran 9+ miles today - first time in a while I've run that far, so was quite happy to get through a full 7.5 before I really started feeling it.  I've been doing a fair bit of running on the tready, speed work and hill work, but this is the first long run in quite a while since those are the workouts that have come off the calendar when I've been sick.  Was good to get out on the road too, and the warmer weather felt nice.  Feels a little frustrating to be this far into the year and really not have made much progress.  But I am keeping at it, and doing my best to rest when I need to so as not to make it worse.  I am hopeful that I'm on the upward swing now.

Training at this level on the road is definitely a challenge.  A situation like last year, with a different city every week, is almost impossible. This year, with a regular gig, and an apartment that allows me to have my bike and trainer with me, make it much more workable.  Not to mention a great gym a few minutes walk away.  I'm looking forward to getting back to yoga again this coming week, and I'll probably stay there next weekend, to get a bit more rest and some solid training in.

With a 10k on the books for 3 weeks from now, and possibly the Tundra Time Trial (need to check with Coach on that one), I feel like it's time to get serious.  But I need to be continually reminded that the big day is still a long way away.  Right now Zone 2 is my friend! So. Base continues, and it's important to train smart right now so I can train hard later.  On the road and off.

Happy Training!
